What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you use the Counting Sheep Club app, visit countingsheep.club, contact us, or otherwise interact with us.
Counting Sheep Club is designed for parents and caregivers. Parents and caregivers are the account holders and the users of the app. Children do not create accounts, log in, communicate with us, or use the app independently.
In short
Counting Sheep Club helps parents create personalised bedtime stories for their children.
A parent or caregiver chooses what information to provide about a child. We use that information only to personalise stories and narration. We do not use child-profile information, stories, or audio for advertising, retargeting, behavioural profiling, or training general-purpose AI models.
We do not ask for a child's surname, home address, phone number, precise location, photograph, or voice recording.
Information we collect
Information about the parent or caregiver
When you create an account, we may collect:
your name and email address made available through Apple or Google sign-in;
your account identifier and sign-in information;
subscription and entitlement status;
support messages or other communications you send us; and
information needed to prevent fraud, protect the service, or comply with law.
If you buy a subscription through Apple or Google, those providers process your payment information. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Information a parent or caregiver provides about a child
To create personalised stories, a parent or caregiver may choose to provide:
the child's first name or nickname;
age;
optional gender;
optional characteristics, such as hair type, eye colour, or whether the child wears glasses;
interests, favourite themes, or activities;
first names or roles of important people in the child's life, such as family members or friends;
names of pets or other special companions; and
relevant life changes, such as starting kindergarten or changing schools.
We use this information only to create stories that feel personal and relevant to the child.
Please do not include a child's surname, address, contact details, school name, medical information, diagnosis, or other information that is not needed to create a story.
Stories and audio
We collect and store the stories and narration generated through the app so that the parent or caregiver can access them in their library.
Generated stories may include the information a parent or caregiver chose to provide about a child.
Technical and usage information
We may collect limited technical information needed to operate and improve the app and website, such as:
device type, operating system, app version, browser type, and IP address;
crash reports, diagnostics, and security information;
app and website activity needed to operate, troubleshoot, and improve our services; and
website-cookie and consent information.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
create and manage parent or caregiver accounts;
generate personalised stories and narration;
safety-check generated story content;
save stories and audio to the account library;
provide customer support;
manage subscriptions and prevent fraud;
maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app and website;
send service-related communications;
send marketing communications where you have asked to receive them or where permitted by law; and
comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations.
We do not use child-profile information, generated stories, or narration to advertise to a child or parent, build advertising audiences, or make decisions about a child.
AI service providers
We use specialised AI providers to provide the core service:
Anthropic
Anthropic helps generate personalised story text. It may receive the child-profile information a parent or caregiver chooses to include in the story request.
Hume
Hume helps create narration from generated story text. It receives the story text needed to produce the narration.
OpenAI
OpenAI helps us safety-check generated story content before it is delivered through the app. It may receive story text for that purpose.
We use these providers only to provide Counting Sheep Club. We do not use, and do not permit these providers to use, child-profile information, stories, or narration to train general-purpose AI models.
Other service providers
We may use trusted service providers to host and operate the app and website, provide account sign-in, manage subscriptions, deliver support, send communications, monitor reliability, and protect the service.
These providers may process personal information only on our instructions and only as needed to provide their services to us.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect rights, safety, or security, or as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Website advertising and cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies.
With your consent, we may use website analytics and marketing technologies, including Meta Pixel and Pinterest Tag, to measure advertising performance and show relevant advertising to people who have visited our website. Under some US state privacy laws, using these technologies may be treated as "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information.
This applies to website activity only. We do not use child-profile information, stories, narration, or in-app activity for advertising or retargeting.

How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Counting Sheep Club, maintain your account and story library, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect the service, and enforce our agreements.
We keep account and child-profile information while the account remains active. When you ask us to delete an account, we delete the account, child-profile information, stories, and narration from our active systems, except where we must retain limited information for legal, security, tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention reasons.
Residual copies may remain in secure backups for a limited period before being overwritten through our normal backup cycle.
Your choices and rights
A parent or caregiver may ask us to:
access the personal information associated with their account;
correct inaccurate information;
delete their account, child profiles, stories, or narration;
stop further use of child-profile information;
withdraw from marketing communications; or
ask questions about how we use information.

Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have additional privacy rights. We will respond to requests as required by applicable law.
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in the email. You can withdraw your website-cookie consent at any time by contacting us at privacy@countingsheep.club or by deleting cookies in your browser settings.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
No system is completely secure. Please use a strong account on your Apple or Google sign-in provider and keep access to your device secure.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised policy with an updated "Last updated" date.
If we make a material change to how we use child-profile information, stories, or narration, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
